“We fear what we don’t understand.”

This quote from Batman Begins reflects a lot about human nature — and about the value and importance of creative work. Things we don’t understand (and therefore fear) might be the other side of a controversial topic, like abortion, guns, or immigration. Or it might be people with different backgrounds, lifestyles, or appearances. Or — and sometimes this is the most scary of all — it might be something about ourselves: our families of origin, our formative childhood experiences, our failed relationships.

But doing deep creative work, like creating a narrative podcast, can give us a hard-won understanding of these things, whether they are outside or inside us — and thus help us approach the world with a little more joy, and a little less fear. So here’s to creative work and creative living, and making a great scripted podcast.

Short video of me discussing this here.

P.S. Ready to face something you fear?

Making a narrative podcast is a great way to work through things, and we have several ways of helping you do that: private podcast coaching, our self-paced online course, and our one-day workshops. Or if you just want to get writing, here are a few tips for getting started.
