Narrative Podcasting episodes in progress

We’re strong believers in the value of getting feedback on your work at various stages throughout the process. We also hope that seeing our own work in progress will be inspiring and illuminating for any of you thinking about your own scripted podcasting work. So on this page, we’ll post early edits of voiceover for upcoming pieces, as well as links to scripts so you can see how the work takes shape.

Voice your story; change your life

This is the theme line we arrived at for Narrative Podcasts after going through many options and lots of thoughts and discussion. We were trying to articulate exactly what Narrative Podcasting means to us and has done for us — Laura and I both come from writing backgrounds, but found that narrative podcasting did something beyond writing, both for us, and for listeners. This draft episode here was the culmination of about 10 successive times of sitting down and writing about it. Here’s the link to the transcript.

Trailer: The Story Inside You

I’ve been working on this podcast for months, through many ideas, logos, and names, trying to clarify exactly what my perspective is and why I’m doing this. In a way, this podcast is the culmination not just of the last four years getting into narrative podcasting, but of me spiraling back around to the vocation I was running from most of my adult life: teaching. So it’s a lot of life to pack into a trailer!

This is one of the most recent versions, where I was trying to focus on the encouraging attitude Laura and I bring to our podcast training, and the belief we have about everyone having stories to tell.

Podcasting course module 3your creative personality

Before arriving at the gemstone metaphor that unifies this version, I wrote a whole separate script about a musician friend of mine, recorded that ten minutes of VO, and then got feedback from a trusted creative partner who pointed out (correctly) that the piece was more about me getting stuff off my chest, and less addressing the real topic of creative personality.

So I hit the mental reset button, recorded multiple voice memos to myself as I continued to process what creative personality really means for scripted podcasting, and then finally, a number of days later, wrote and recorded this. VO is cleaned up, but no sound design yet:

(Or if you’re waiting for the remaining teaser episodes to drop, you can always hear more of our work and learn about the founder and instructors, Laura Joyce Davis and Nate Davis.)
